The Braga branch of the Portuguese Red Cross honored several partner institutions and organizations for their work in the social sector during a ceremony held as part of the celebrations for World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day.
Among the recognized entities were the Municipality of Braga, Cerci Braga, residents’ associations, the 6th Cavalry Regiment, as well as several companies and organizations in the municipality that regularly collaborate on social and humanitarian support projects.
The ceremony was attended by Hortense Santos, Councilor for Social Cohesion of the Braga City Council, and Pedro Nascimento, Executive Director of BragaHabit. The event was also marked by the signing of a cooperation agreement between BragaHabit and the Portuguese Red Cross in Braga, strengthening institutional coordination in supporting people in situations of greater social vulnerability.
The initiative also included the seminar “People, Homes, and Humanity — A Look at the Reality of People Experiencing Homelessness,” held at the Portuguese Catholic University in Braga. The event fostered reflection on the growing phenomenon of homelessness in Portugal and the need for integrated, continuous, and humane social responses.
With these awards, the Portuguese Red Cross in Braga sought to recognize the contribution of local entities in promoting social cohesion and supporting the most vulnerable populations in the region.
