On June 17, the auditorium of the NOVA FCT Library will host the international seminar “Tinplate Toy Heritage as a Path to Innovation,” organized as part of the TOY STORY and TWIN projects.

The initiative aims to explore how the heritage associated with toys—particularly tin toys—can serve as a platform for innovation across various fields of knowledge, ranging from history and sociology to materials science, conservation, design, and education.

The seminar will feature four speakers of international renown: Artemis Yagou of the Deutsches Museum; Laura Brambilla of HE-ARC, Switzerland; Laurent Rabier of the Musée de l’Air et de l’Espace; and Luísa Magalhães of the Portuguese Catholic University – Braga and ITRA.

The presentations will explore current perspectives on the materiality of toys, their technological evolution, the cultural value of design, and their educational potential, situating these themes within the context of the latest international research.

The program will also include a presentation of the main findings of the TOY STORY project, which aims to connect Portugal’s industrial past with its future by studying and promoting the heritage of tin toys.
