LB Mentor online course: Recognized in the fields of Language and Personal Skills Coaching and Mentoring

Program Description

The online mentor training course aims to make a difference in the inclusion and language learning of young migrants.

This training takes place entirely online, is organized into 8 thematic modules and can be completed asynchronously and self-directed via the Language Buddy platform.

Note:
• Students will have to have at least 1 hour of synchronous interaction (face-to-face or online), which will be the course's kick-off session.
• Students are required to participate in activities in the discussion forum on the LB platform (in English or the national language).

Objectives

  • Strengthen buddy/mentoring systems with a language learning component for young people with a migrant background (12 to 17 years old).
  • Strengthen the skills of higher education students in the pedagogy/education/language/literature departments in innovative learning methodologies, intercultural pedagogy and language development.
  • Improving access for young people of migrant origin (12 to 17 years old) to non-formal/informal language learning opportunities (supporting the work done by schools).
  • Strengthen cooperation between higher education institutions, migrant-led organizations, schools, NGOs and local/regional education authorities to support young migrants' language learning.

Added value:

  • Cultural exchange: You will have the opportunity to learn about different cultures and perspectives, increasing your cultural awareness and understanding.
  • Language skills: Both university students and migrant students will be able to improve their language skills through constant practice and involvement.
  • Personal growth: They will be able to develop skills focused on empathy and communication, as well as interpersonal skills by working closely with young people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Networking: The program provides a platform for making connections with fellow students, mentors and professionals involved in the project.
  • Academic support: For migrant students, this project offers vital support to adapt to academic challenges, making their transition smoother.
  • Achievement: You will be able to make a positive contribution to someone's life and help them integrate into a new environment, which we hope will be incredibly rewarding.

The Project

Language Buddy is a project that aims to support language learning by migrant children and young people through the creation of language pairs, known as Language Buddies. Co-funded by the European Commission's Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (2021-2027), the project's cross-cutting objective is to promote the integration and educational success of these young people in the participating countries.

The project consortium is led by the University of Macedonia and brings together 16 organizations from eight European countries - Greece, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Romania and Bulgaria - including universities, civil society associations and education departments. Together, they are working to create inclusive learning environments and facilitate the linguistic and social development of young migrants in school and community contexts.
