Emanuel Gouveia

He received his PhD in Physics in 2021 from the University of Minho. He studied the properties of the interaction between the top quark and the Higgs boson, analysing data collected by the ATLAS experiment at CERN.

From 2021 to 2024, he worked as a data scientist at DTx CoLab on various digital transformation projects, delivering data-driven system prototypes to industrial partners. During part of this period, he coordinated the Data Science and Machine Learning group.

Since 2024, he has been a lecturer and researcher at the Portuguese Catholic University in Braga.

His main research interests are efficient machine learning on data and domain-informed machine learning. In particular, he is interested in methods that make neural networks more data-efficient by taking advantage of known domain dynamics and symmetries. These include self-supervised learning, equivariant networks, physics-informed neural networks, and data augmentation techniques. He is also interested in applications of these methods to problems in science and industry.
