Pedro Chagas Freitas and Assunção Anes Morais will share their career paths and perspectives

On May 6, the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences at the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) is hosting a series of events that place contemporary Portuguese language and literature at the heart of academic life.

The event is part of the celebrations for World Portuguese Language Day and is the result of a collaboration between the Liberdade Reading Club and the Bachelor’s Program in Portuguese Studies, featuring Pedro Chagas Freitas and Assunção Anes Morais, authors invited to share their journeys, perspectives, and writing experiences with the academic community. The session aims to encourage critical reflection and deepen knowledge of literature in the Portuguese language.

This initiative also highlights the dynamism and capacity for cooperation among different departments within the faculty, while simultaneously valuing student leadership and the pedagogical commitment of its faculty.

By linking the celebration of the Portuguese language to engaging encounters with contemporary literature, the FFCS reaffirms itself as a space for thought, culture, and creativity, where words take on presence and meaning in everyday university life.

The activities are open to the public, extending an invitation to the Braga community and all interested parties. This aspect reinforces the Portuguese Catholic University’s commitment to sharing knowledge and engaging with society, promoting Portuguese culture and language beyond the academic sphere.

In turn, the session with Assunção Anes Morais is part of a consistent strategy to promote contemporary literature within the Bachelor’s Degree in Portuguese Studies, highlighting the role of the joint coordination of professors Maria José Lopes, Ana Paula Pinto, and Cândido Oliveira Martins, who are active promoters of initiatives that bring students closer to authors and the current dynamics of literary creation.
