She graduated in Humanities from the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University (Regional Centre of Braga) in 1989, where she also completed, in the area of Latin Literature, under the guidance of Prof. Américo da Costa Ramalho. Américo da Costa Ramalho, her Proofs of Scientific Ability and Pedagogical Aptitude (1997) and her PhD (2007), accompanied in the latter also by Prof Amadeu Torres (‘Historical, literary and linguistic study of the work Commentarii rerum gestarum in India citra Gangem a Lusitanis anno 1538 by Damião de Góis’).
He has been a member of the teaching staff of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences since 1990, having taught various courses, mainly in the areas of Classical Studies, History of the Portuguese Language, Portuguese Culture and English Language. As a member of the Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies, she has coordinated projects and organised initiatives such as national and international colloquia and book publishing, as well as taking part in various national and international events.
She has also been a director of the Revista Portuguesa de Humanidades. She has published on Greco-Latin authors such as Sophocles, Euripides, Tacitus and Martial; and on classical influences in Portuguese Pre-Renaissance, Renaissance, modern and contemporary writers, particularly Camilo Castelo Branco, Agustina Bessa Luís and Hélia Correia.
