- Present a diachronic perspective of the most relevant achievements of Portuguese Literature in its connection with History and Historiography in terms of expansion, and their interpretations;
- Propose updated lines of interpretation of the relationships between Literature, History, mentality and Portuguese Culture;
- Critically analyze Portuguese works and authors resulting from the impact of the Portuguese Expansion, whether in the 16th century, or in the 19th and 20th centuries;
- Know the structure of the work Os Lusíadas, relevant episodes and style issues;
- Analyze the idea of the Fifth Empire in the work of Father António Vieira;
- Identify several critical positions assumed by writers on the situation in Portugal at the end of the 19th century in relation to the period of expansion;
- Interpret in Fernando's Message the different moments of the History of Portugal, with special emphasis on the maritime expansion and the Sebastianist symbology.
