He has a PhD in Humanities, specialising in Portuguese Linguistics, from the Faculty of Philosophy of the Portuguese Catholic University (Braga Regional Centre). He was the Secretary of this basic unit between 2002 and 2011, and its Director from 2011 to 2015. Between 2015 and 2018 he was also Director of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences. He was Secretary, Deputy Director and Director of the Portuguese Journal of Humanities, and has been a member of its Editorial Board since 2018.
An integrated member of the Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies (CEFH), he coordinated the Line of Research in Interdisciplinary Studies and served on the board of this R&D. At the same time, he co-ordinated the Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Information and Documentation Sciences. Her main areas of research range from language sciences to communication sciences, whether at the phonetic, phonological and morphological levels of the Portuguese language, or at the level of communication theory, pragmatics and discourse analysis. He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Bracara Augusta Foundation since 2011, having been its Chairman between 2011 and 2015.
