The 4th edition of the “Passeio das Virtudes: People, Heritage, and Virtue” will take place tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. at the Monastery of São Martinho de Tibães.
Tomorrow, starting at 4 p.m., the Monastery of São Martinho de Tibães will host the 4th edition of the “Walk of Virtues: People, Heritage, and Virtue.” This event, open to the community upon registration, aims primarily to contribute to the appreciation of the Tibães Monastery’s heritage related to the theme of virtues, as well as the intangible heritage embodied in the testimonies of people who, through their way of being, exemplify virtue.
Organized by the Friends of the Tibães Monastery Group, in partnership with the coordinators of the Positive Psychology and Logotherapy Course and the Executive Academy of the Portuguese Catholic University of Braga, the event is sponsored by Farmácia Narcisa C. Dias.
This event is coordinated by Ana Cláudia Fernandes, who serves on the GAMT Board of Directors and is the director of the Positive Psychology and Logotherapy Course, within the framework of which a partnership agreement with the Monastery of São Martinho de Tibães was established about ten years ago.
It was within the context of this agreement that, at the end of the course, students began visiting the monastery for an event where they share the stories they write during their training. This is because at the Monastery of Tibães “the Virtues are very much present,” as Ana Cláudia Fernandes noted, citing as examples “the iconic Staircase of the Virtues, which was recently restored; the magnificent sculptures in the sacristy by Friar Cipriano da Cruz, a 17th-century Benedictine sculptor; as well as in the church, where the three Theological Virtues are located above the organ.”
The event eventually evolved into an initiative open to the community, and as such, it will hold its 4th edition tomorrow.
Participation in the event requires registration via email at amigosdetibaes@gmail.com, and the cost is 12 euros for the general public and 10 euros for GAMT members or students in the Positive Psychology and Logotherapy course.
“In this 4th edition of the Tour of the Virtues, we will explore the art of legacy. Starting from the Chapter House, we will walk along the Monastic Wall to the Staircase of the Virtues to see the iconic Baroque fountains depicting the Virtues, hear stories of inspiring leaders, and then ascend to the Chapel of St. Benedict. We’ll return to the Monastery via the Lake and conclude with a magnificent concert of 17th-century Italian music performed by Il Filo d’Oro,” described Ana Cláudia Fernandes, who will open this Walk of Virtues with a lecture on the theme “Virtue, Leadership, and Legacy” in the Chapter House.
The closing concert will be led by tenor Fernando Guimarães and harpsichordist Fernando Miguel Jalôto.
Yesterday, at the press conference to present this “Passeio das Virtudes,” Fernando Guimarães offered a glimpse of what “Ecos de África” will entail—a concert featuring exclusively European music from the 16th and 17th centuries with African musical influences.
Symbolically inspired by the Staircase of the Virtues at the Tibães Monastery, the concert will take the audience on a musical journey that spans different cultural traditions, revealing how dialogue between peoples and cultures gives rise to extraordinary artistic richness and elevation.
