The Institute of Computing and Data Science (ICCD) of the Catholic University of Portugal will operate in the Regional Center of Braga, the institution announced. “In a digital era in constant evolution and overwhelming production of data, knowing how to extract information and use it requires a specialized approach and adequate tools”, thus justify the heads of 'Católica' the ICCD's objective of “producing and developing knowledge in the areas of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence”.
In a statement, the Catholic University of Portugal reveals that “three computer labs were created with the purpose of promoting the close connection between research results in this area and the development and improvement of processes in the national industrial sector”.

These spaces were equipped with computers with hardware and software capable of responding to the most recent challenges of collecting, processing, analyzing and visualizing large volumes of data, in order to provide students with the necessary skills to enter a highly competitive job market.

Vítor J. Sá, coordinator of the area of Computing and Data Science at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Catholic University, is confident that “the new Institute will make an important contribution in terms of teaching, research and collaboration with the business sector. , which in Braga is particularly active and creative, to boost the era of artificial intelligence and evidence-based decision-making, which happens with the discovery of existing patterns in data that only computers, when properly programmed, are able to unravel”.
