UCP2 Mental Health: New initiatives to cultivate mental health

Monday, October 6, 2025 - 17:46

On 1 October, Católica Porto hosted the national UCP2 Mental Health event entitled ‘UCP2 Mental Health: What is changing in mental health and wellbeing at Católica’. This meeting brought together the four campuses of the Portuguese Catholic University to reflect on the measures needed to be implemented in this area, present the activities carried out in the first year of the Project, as well as new initiatives aimed at promoting, preventing and intervening in mental health in the academic community.

For the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year, UCP students will have access to workshops dedicated to various topics identified as relevant by students, such as positive body image, anxiety, panic attacks and academic burnout. These workshops aim to increase students' literacy on these topics and equip them with self-care and psychological first aid tools.

In addition to the workshops, UCP2 Be is a course designed to promote students' social and emotional skills, which will contribute to better self-knowledge and healthy adaptation to the demands of higher education.

Among the new features was Pro Stress. This is a stress management programme that will be carried out in partnership with the Life Skills School of the Psychology Association of the University of Minho.

Finally, as part of the intervention, protocols were signed with institutions that could play a promising role in providing support tailored to the needs of students that cannot be met by Católica's support systems. Thus, the Braga Campus signed protocols with Recovey IPSS and Projeto Homem.
