PUBLIC NOTICE FOR AN INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR APPLICATIONS

FOR THE POST OF POST-DOCTORAL RESEARCHER

PURSUANT TO DECREE-LAW NO. 57/ 2016 OF 29 AUGUST

1. Framework

The Rector of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa, Prof. Dr. Isabel Capeloa Gil, hereby announces the opening of an international call for applications for one vacancy of junior doctoral researcher to perform duties of scientific research and knowledge transfer (with an exclusivity clause), in the scientific field of LINGUISTICS. The research activities will be carried out at the Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies (CEFH), integrated at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of Universidade Católica Portuguesa, in Braga, within the framework of the Research Project "Convergence and Divergence between National Varieties of Portuguese", Reference FCT 2023.16323.ICDT, under the Call for SR&TD Projects in all Scientific Domains 2023 and supported by national funds, under the State Budget component.

 

This hiring is intended for the performance of the following activities: 1) Conduct research within the scope of the CONDIV Project – Convergence and Divergence among National Varieties of Portuguese (FCT Reference 2023.16323.ICDT); 2) Collect data from national varieties of Portuguese and build a large corpus stratified along three dimensions: geographical (Angola, Brazil, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe), with a predominance of data from African varieties; diachronic (1950s, 1970s, 1990s, and 2010–20); and stylistic (newspapers and magazines, Usenet, social networks, and WhatsApp); 3) Carry out computational work involving corpus preparation, data annotation, and computational analyses, as well as experimental work involving data collection and analysis through surveys, interviews, and linguistic experiments; 4) Develop sociocognitive and lectometric analyses of lexical variation across different lexical domains; 5) Develop sociocognitive and lectometric analyses of constructional variation across different grammatical constructions; 6) Develop sociocognitive and lectometric analyses of lexical and grammatical indicators of language contact in the Angolan, Mozambican, and Santomean varieties, as well as indicators of nativization of Angolan, Mozambican, and Santomean Portuguese; 7) Develop a sociocognitive analysis of linguistic attitudes; 8) Quantitatively analyze linguistic data using advanced multivariate statistical methods and computational techniques to measure convergence and divergence among national varieties of Portuguese, as well as the internal stratification of each of the aforementioned varieties; 9) Undertake a research stay at the QLVL Unit of the Department of Linguistics at the University of Leuven and carry out fieldwork in Mozambique and Angola; 10) Collaborate with the CONDIV Project team in dissemination, publication, and knowledge transfer activities, namely: writing articles to be submitted to journals indexed in Scopus or Web of Science and to collective volumes published by internationally renowned publishers; presenting papers at international conferences; organizing scientific events within the scope of the project; creating and updating the Project’s website; supervising doctoral and master’s theses; and providing occasional teaching support.

2. Applicable Legislation

Decree-Law no. 57/2016 of 29 August, amended by Law no. 57/2017 of 19 July, in its current wording, which sets out the framework for the hiring of post-doctoral academics, aimed at fostering scientific and technological employment in all areas of knowledge (RJEC), without prejudice to the specific regulations applicable to the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.

3. Workplace

The workplace is located at the Braga facilities of the Universidade Católica Portuguesa.
