On 4 December, the seminar ‘Challenges and lessons learned in the context of social work placements: experiences and interventions’ will be held in the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (FFCS) of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) in Braga.
The opening session will be led by the Director of the FFCS at UCP - Braga, Bruno Nobre; the coordinator of the Social Work degree programme and member of the Board of the FFCS at UCP - Braga, Catarina Vieira da Silva; and a representative of the Order of Social Workers.
The first panel, entitled ‘Strategies for the Social Integration of the Immigrant Population’, will feature Sónia Diz, head of the Office for the Professional Integration of Immigrants of the Portuguese Red Cross - Braga Delegation; and Eugénia Oliveira and Filipa Pinto, social service technicians at the Francisco Sanches School Group, in a round table format, moderated by Tatiana Fernandes and Bruna Oliveira, students of the Social Work degree.
This will be followed by a coffee break, during which there will be a presentation of a photographic exhibition on Domestic Violence, created by 3rd-year Social Work students, and an exhibition of posters on pioneering figures in Social Work, created by 1st-year students from the same degree programme.
In the second, lecturers Catarina Vieira da Silva and Jorge Barbosa will talk about the ‘Professional Support and Employability Centre for Social Work Alumni - FFCS’.
The morning session will conclude with a round table discussion on ‘Promoting the Professional Reintegration of Socially Vulnerable Groups,’ featuring Célia Saldanha, from the Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council, and Adriana Silva, from the Braga Solidarity Centre, moderated by Beatriz Costa and Carolina Rebelo, Social Work degree students.
In the afternoon, there will be a third round table on ‘The Challenges of Ageing from a Social Work Perspective’ with the participation of Jorge Teixeira, from Casa do Professor; Sameiro Cardoso, from the Portuguese Red Cross - Braga Delegation; and Maria Luísa Silva, from the S. José Nursing Home, moderated by Bruna Ferreira, Danielly Pereira and Lineyd Martins, students of the Social Work degree course.
Finally, the Asilo de S. José Choir will perform in the ‘Olhares e Sons’ (Looks and Sounds) segment, and there will also be a presentation of the new members of the SerSocial Student Committee and the awarding of a diploma for the best scientific poster.
The closing ceremony will be conducted by Jorge Barbosa, a lecturer in the Social Work degree programme at UCP - Braga.
