On 20 November, the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (FFCS) of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) - Braga will celebrate World Philosophy Day, bringing together around 300 students from various secondary schools in the region.
This year's edition will be held under the theme ‘Our Attention Today,’ which highlights the need to reflect on, nurture, and educate this essential skill for personal, academic, and social life, especially in a context marked by constant ‘digital distractions.’
The meeting will begin at 9:45 a.m. with a welcome session, followed by the opening session by the Director of the FFCS, Prof. Dr. Bruno Nobre. The programme also includes a presentation on ‘The Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences: Mission, history and training’ by Prof. Dr. João Carlos Onofre Pinto. Prof. Dr. Cláudio Carvalho will give a lecture entitled ‘Alice in Wonderland. Where is our attention today?’. The morning continues with the practical activity ‘I pause, therefore I am’, led by Prof. Dr. Anabela Santos Rodrigues, and with the moment ‘Philosophy Today: Testimonials’, culminating in a visit to the campus.
Established and promoted by UNESCO, World Philosophy Day has been celebrated since 2002 on the third Thursday of November, seeking to highlight the relevance of philosophy in the development of critical thinking, deep reflection on major contemporary challenges, and the capacity for tolerance and fruitful intercultural dialogue.
