Integral Ecology

5 ECTS / Semestral / Português

The course aims to foster an informed and in-depth reflection on the various aspects of the ecological crisis facing humanity and the planet. Drawing on Pope Francis’s reflections in the encyclical Laudato Si’, the course will draw upon resources from various disciplines: the natural sciences, philosophy, theology—particularly biblical theology—and economics. The specific objectives are:

  • To promote a rigorous and interdisciplinary understanding of the various aspects of the ecological crisis and its social and economic impacts.
  • To identify and examine, from a philosophical perspective, the human roots of the ecological crisis.
  • To foster theological reflection, grounded in the Church’s Social Teaching, on the theological significance of nature and the place of human beings in creation.
  • To explore the concept of integral ecology, promoting an understanding of the relationship between ecology and social justice.
  • To promote a commitment to a sustainable and ecological lifestyle.
