OPEN CALL | T4EU launches the 1st Festival of European Culture and Languages

Tuesday, April 15, 2025 - 15:34

The Portuguese Catholic University has opened the call for bachelor's, master's and doctoral students to take part in the first Transform4Europe Festival of European Culture and Languages: Tourism and Border Heritage, which will take place from 7 to 11 July 2025 at the University of Trieste, in collaboration with stakeholders from the GLAM sector.

Apply by 21 April for one of the 2 fully paid scholarships covering travel, accommodation and insurance for the selected students to take part in the festival.

About the festival:

Tourism plays a crucial role in shaping Europe's cultural and economic landscape, but it often leads to challenges such as over-tourism and the oversimplification of urban narratives. Many cities, particularly those in border regions, suffer from a reduction of their complex histories to easily marketable stories, obscuring the intricate historical, anthropological and political dynamics that define them.

This festival critically examines these issues, using Trieste, a city deeply influenced by its border identity, as a case study. Participants will explore the city just like the hundreds of tourists who arrive daily, but with a critical perspective. Through guided explorations and discussions, they will analyse what becomes visible in heritage narratives and what remains hidden, uncovering the contested and layered nature of urban identity.

On the criteria:
  • Be a bachelor's, master's or doctoral student at the Catholic University;
  • Demonstrate strong communication and comprehension skills in English;
  • Comply with all the application requirements (detailed in the Call).
