Católica Braga forms Institute of Computing and Data Science

The Catholic University of Portugal – Braga Regional Center officially formed the Institute of Computing and Data Science (ICCD) with the aim of producing and developing knowledge in the areas of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence.

After the opening of the Degree in Applied Data Science, last year, composed of a highly qualified teaching staff specialized in Computing and Data Science, as well as in Mathematics and Statistics, the commitment in this field continued to be improved.

In this sense, three computer labs were created with the aim of promoting a close connection between research results in this area and the development and improvement of processes in the national industrial sector. In order to respond to the needs of students, researchers and teachers in this scientific area, these spaces were equipped with computers with hardware and software capable of responding to the most recent challenges inherent in the collection, treatment, analysis and visualization of large volumes of data, from in order to provide students with the necessary skills to successfully enter a highly competitive job market.

The strategic plan includes partnerships with technological and competitive companies in the Minho region, so that complex and real problems are studied in the programs of the curricular units of the Degree in Applied Data Science.
