On the 7th of July, between 2.30 pm and 9.30 pm, the Colloquium "World Heritage and Peace" took place at the Hotel do Parque located in Bom Jesus do Monte in Braga.
This event featured an approach to the themes "World Heritage in times of crisis/conflict: how to safeguard it", by Maria Conceição Lopes (University of Coimbra); "ICOMOS Vision on World Heritage and Peace", by Ana Paula Amendoeira (Vice-President of ICOMOS); and "By Bom Jesus de Braga, the love of peace united the world", by Miguel Bandeira (President of the Bracara Augusta Foundation).
The signing of the agreement between the Confraria do Bom Jesus do Monte and the Portuguese Catholic Universities (UCP) of Braga and Minho was the highlight of the session. “These protocols show that the sanctuary of Bom Jesus is open to science, research, knowledge, areas that must always be at the service of peace and a new humanity”, stressed Canon Mário Martins, President of the Brotherhood of Bom Jesus do Mount.
The President of UCP – Braga, João Manuel Duque, highlighted the importance of the agreements that were signed “for the development of universities”.
The respective program also included the launch of the book "Bom Jesus do Monte" (2nd edition)" and the concert of the vocal group "Cupertinos", which proves that the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus is inclusive.
