The Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) - Braga is preparing to host a Staff Training on the theme of Sustainability, Active Pedagogies and Global Citizenship, from 16 to 18 June, organised in partnership with the Centro Social e Irmandade de São Torcato and the Instituto Católico de Artes e Ofícios (ICAM).

The first day of training, 16 June, will take place at UCP - Braga and will be dedicated to the theme ‘Sustainability and Introduction on the SDGs’. The opening session will include a presentation of the objectives of the Staff Training and a speech by a representative of the United Nations University, who will address the topic ‘Why the 2030 Agenda Is a Commitment for Universities?’. After the speech, an interactive debate will be opened between the participants on the main topic and shared experiences.

Later in the morning, selected participants will make presentations on projects related to sustainability and the SDGs, a session that will continue after lunch.

After the presentations, a workshop entitled ‘LEGO Serious Play’ will take place, where participants will have the opportunity to explore the Sustainable Development Goals using the LEGO Serious Play methodology. The day will end with a cultural tour of the city of Braga.

On the second day, 17 June, the activities will take place at the Centro Social e Irmandade de São Torcato, in Guimarães, focusing on the theme ‘Ignatian Pedagogy and Active Teaching Methodologies’. José Lopes SJ, will present the conference ‘Teaching with Purpose: The Relevance of Ignatian Pedagogy in Active Learning Practices’. The programme also includes three moments of sharing: presentations of innovative educational projects from partner institutions; testimonies from students and representatives of partner organisations; and the presentation of a short documentary film: Ser Cuida(i)doso - Winner of the Uniservitate 2024 Prize.

In the afternoon, the ‘Service-Learning Project Implementation’ panel will highlight the ‘Tourism Communication Strategy for São Torcato’ project. The day will end with socialising and traditional Minho music.

The final day of training, 18 June, will again take place at UCP - Braga and will be dedicated to the theme of ‘Global Citizenship’. This final forum aims to address the issue of university experience at a ‘Jesuit University: Perceptions and Practices’.
