What is E-learning?

Distance learning is the provision of teaching and learning activities without the need for face-to-face attendance at the Faculty's premises, alternatively using information and communication technologies to make content available and for interaction between teachers and students. Formally, it is regulated by a legal framework that defines the accreditation criteria, ensuring the pedagogical and academic quality of the courses offered in this modality.

This teaching method is underpinned by a solid legislative framework that guarantees both the quality of qualifications and flexible access to education. Currently, Decree-Law 133/2019 of 3 September defines the specific legal regime for this modality, establishing that distance learning courses must be expressly included in accreditation acts or be formally requested.

Distance learning facilitates the creation of global learning networks, enabling partnerships between institutions in different countries. This cooperation promotes scientific, cultural and technical exchange, enriching students' curricula with international perspectives and contributing to the internationalisation of higher education in Portugal.
