Álvaro Balsas is an Assistant Professor at the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP), where he completed his PhD in Philosophy of Science (2010). He obtained his Licentiate and
Master's degrees in Physics, respectively, at the University of Coimbra (1987) and
University of Aveiro (1991), where he was also a lecturer. He studied Philosophy at UCP, Braga (1997), and Theology in Madrid (2000) and Berkeley, California, where he obtained a Master's degree in Systematic Theology (2003). He is a researcher at the CEFH of the UCP and was Deputy Director of the Revista Portuguesa de
Filosofia (2000-19) which, under his direction, was indexed in SCOPUS-Elsevier.
His areas of research are the Foundations of Quantum Mechanics (particularly interpretation of the theory, EPR, CHSH, Bell and Tsirelson inequalities, local realism), Condensed Matter Physics, Philosophy of Nature (particularly causal processes and complex systems), Philosophy of Science and Science and Religion. He has published 24 articles in his field, is the author of 3 books and editor and co-editor of 18 others.
