Braga Summer School in Linguistics reúne investigadores de vários países na 5.ª edição

From September 1 to 4, 2026, the 5th edition of the Braga Summer School in Linguistics took place, organized by the Center for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University. Eleven doctoral students and postdoctoral researchers in the field of linguistics participated, coming from various countries, including the United States, Germany, France, Croatia, Spain, and Portugal.

The courses were taught by four internationally renowned scholars in the field of cognitive linguistics: Dirk Geeraerts of the University of Leuven; Hans-Jörg Schmid of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich; Hans-Georg Wolf of the University of Potsdam; and Laura Hidalgo-Downing of the Autonomous University of Madrid.

The experience offered by the Braga Summer School was also marked by diversity and a sense of community among the participants. Mariam, one of this year’s participants, highlights precisely the impact of the experience beyond its academic dimension:

“My experience at the Braga Summer School exceeded my expectations. When I attended the summer school, I knew very little about cognitive linguistics. Although the topic wasn’t directly related to my research, I found the summer school to be extremely informative and stimulating. A significant part of my positive experience was due to the community we built during the summer school. “I've made some incredible connections that I'll always cherish, and I'm so grateful for the people I've had the opportunity to meet and from whom I've been able to learn.”

The Braga Summer School in Linguistics is thus increasingly establishing itself as a summer school of international renown and visibility in the field of linguistic studies, particularly from the perspective of Cognitive and Functional Linguistics, focusing on the latest developments in these fields and fostering interdisciplinary dialogue with other cognitive sciences.
