The Portuguese Catholic University, with campuses in Braga, Lisbon, Porto, and Viseu, is committed to developing leaders through a program grounded in academic excellence and universality. Excellence is reflected in the rigor of teaching and research, in the promotion of students’ holistic development, and in entrepreneurship and innovation. Universality ensures openness to the world, dialogue among disciplines, and a vision centered on human dignity, guided by Christian anthropology.

Located in the heart of the city, the Braga Campus is distinguished by a strong philosophical and humanistic tradition, rooted in the centuries-old presence of the Society of Jesus in higher education. Founded in 1947, the Faculty of Philosophy is the oldest university institution in the city and, in 1967, became the first faculty of the Portuguese Catholic University. In 1968, the Faculty of Theology was established, asserting itself as a fundamental academic space for teaching and research, playing a central role in promoting theology and religious studies, and ensuring their cultural and social relevance.

The Braga Regional Center was established in 1999, and in 2001, the School of Social Sciences was founded to meet the region’s needs with a diverse range of academic programs. In 2015, the Faculty of Philosophy merged with the Faculty of Social Sciences, giving rise to the current Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences, alongside the Faculty of Theology.

The Braga Campus is distinguished by its excellence in teaching and research, its service to society, and its commitment to fostering the values of Christian humanism. Its academic programs cover fields such as Psychology, Communication Sciences, Social Work, Tourism, Portuguese Studies, Philosophy, Theology, and Religious Studies, all taught by a highly qualified faculty.

Alongside this tradition, Católica Braga is also at the forefront of innovation, with a technology division dedicated to Data Science and Artificial Intelligence through the Institute of Computing and Data Science. Plans are also underway to launch a bachelor’s degree in Applied Management, strengthening the link between technical training, the human dimension, and practical experience.

In a constantly changing world, the mission is clear: to educate individuals with critical thinking skills, a sense of responsibility, and a commitment to understanding and transforming reality, thereby contributing to a more just, compassionate, and humane society.

The Portuguese Catholic University is more than an educational institution: it is an educational initiative focused on developing leadership skills.

Students as active members of the academic community

College represents a special time in students’ lives and development, one that extends far beyond strictly academic activities. The university invites all students to make the most of their academic journey by taking advantage of all the opportunities it has to offer: from student bands to the academic choir, as well as campus radio, volunteer work, and continuing education programs.
