Palestra Prof. Carlos Morais

On 3 June, Carlos Morais, lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Portuguese Catholic University - Braga, visited Martins Sarmento Secondary School in Guimarães, where he gave a lecture entitled ‘Philosophy as an understanding of reality. Contributions from ancient philosophers’ to 10th and 12th grade students.

The meeting promoted a dialogue between students and teachers, which resulted in a moment of great human, emotional and intellectual enrichment. The reflection underlined the urgency of cultivating a philosophical attitude and critical thinking at a time when radicalism and intolerance threaten culture. In this vein, evoking ancient thinkers can serve as a highly topical awareness-raising impulse.

Interest in the subject and in this type of initiative was also reflected in the desire to intensify, at the beginning of the next academic year, the collaboration between Martins Sarmento Secondary School and the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (UCP - Braga), with a view to carrying out philosophical activities involving the teaching staff and students of both institutions.
