An innovative project in the field of artificial intelligence applied to healthcare, developed on the initiative of Cleópatra Santos, a student in the Bachelor’s program in Applied Data Science at Católica Braga, has been selected to join the European acceleration program ELEVATE.

The proposal stems from the work Cleópatra Santos carried out as part of the Individual Project course in the Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Data Science and aims to develop an intelligent clinical assistant based on artificial intelligence. The solution was designed to interview patients using natural language, collect clinically relevant information, and generate a structured report that can be consulted by physicians, thereby supporting clinical decision-making.

The team responsible for the project consists of Cleópatra Santos and Emanuel Gouveia, a professor and the coordinator of the Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Data Science at the Catholic University of Braga.

Participation in the ELEVATE program will allow the team to benefit from a range of capacity-building and business development opportunities, including entrepreneurship training, specialized mentoring sessions, and an immersive week in Trieste, Italy, dedicated to developing and finalizing their business plan. The program will culminate in a presentation of the project to an audience of investors and other stakeholders in the European innovation ecosystem.

In addition to training and networking opportunities, participants will also be eligible to compete for various awards, including a cash prize of 5,000 euros, an award for women entrepreneurs, and access to other European acceleration programs.

The selection of this project represents an important recognition of the quality of the work carried out by students and faculty at the Catholic University of Braga, highlighting the potential of technological innovation and data science to address concrete challenges facing society, particularly in the field of health.

The ELEVATE program is sponsored by the University of Trieste and aims to support entrepreneurial teams with high innovation potential by providing training, mentoring, and direct contact with international investors and experts.
