The first class of the specialised training courses in Organisation and Management in Professional Football and in Communication in Professional Football was given by the President of Liga Portugal.
The postgraduate courses organised by the Liga Portugal Business School kicked off this Tuesday. Pedro Proença, President of the European Leagues and Liga Portugal, presented the students of the specialised courses in Organisation and Management in Professional Football and Communication in Professional Football with the major challenges facing this industry. The 2024-25 academic year marks a new era in this project, with the future move to Arena Liga Portugal, where there will be a privileged space to develop new training programmes tailored to the needs of sports agents.
As is tradition, the Opening Session took place on one of the stages of the competitions organised by Liga Portugal: this time it was held at the Estádio do Dragão in Porto. The Auditorium of the FC Porto Museum welcomed students from the 9th edition of the Postgraduate course in Organisation and Management in Professional Football, organised with the Porto School of the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University and in partnership with the Católica Porto Business School, and those from the 6th edition of the Postgraduate course in Communication in Professional Football, developed with the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Braga.
Pedro Proença revisited the challenges that Liga Portugal has overcome since he took over as president in 2015. He showed how an institution on the verge of bankruptcy recovered its financial balance and embarked on a path of recovery and consolidation of growth, with nine consecutive years of positive results, and also illustrated the weight of this industry in the economy, as well as the challenges facing the entire football community.
The commitment to training professionals capable of responding to the specific nature of the sector is one of the challenges taken on by Professional Football, which has marked the growth of Liga Portugal during this period. ‘We've been working hard to train and empower sports agents and these two postgraduate courses, which are now recognised as being of great quality, have made their way through naturally,’ said Pedro Proença, at the start of a ’unique experience for those who, during these nine months, are in direct contact with Professional Football.’
