The curriculum unit of Contemporary Social Work III addresses the main debates and challenges faced in the practice of Social Workers in contemporary society, in order to contribute to the understanding of the current implications of social changes in professional practice. Several debates related to environmental issues and, more broadly, to sustainable development and intervention in emergency situations are present. Among the topics addressed for the understanding of social phenomena experienced in contemporaneity are the unfolding of the social issue in a globalized world and the demands placed on the profession in the new international economic order thinking about inequalities, injustice, risk and social disaffiliation, enhancing new forms of exclusion and poverty.
