The Degree in Applied Data Science is organizing the 1st Applied Data Science Conference, to take place on the 26th of April, between 2 pm and 5 pm, at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Catholic University of Portugal ( UCP) – Regional Center of Braga.

This event, which focuses on the theme “Data Science as an interdisciplinary tool: Perspectives and multiple contexts”, aims to present and discuss the benefits and challenges of Data Science in the field of Social Sciences. Fundamentally, it is intended to present, with practical examples, the area of Data Science as a mechanism for extracting knowledge from information present in the most diverse contexts of the Social Sciences (e.g., Psychology, Humanities, Tourism, Social Work).

The Conferences will have the intervention of Professors João Duque, Pro-Rector of the Braga Regional Centre, José Manuel Lopes, Director of FFCS at UCP and Vítor Sá, Coordinator of the Degree in Applied Data Science, at the opening moment.

The member of the National Board of the Order of Portuguese Psychologists, Miguel Oliveira, is the speaker of the first lecture and will address “Data Science in the Information Age: New Horizons for Psychology”.

Then, names such as Idalete Dias (University of Minho), Alberto Freitas (University of Porto / CINTESIS), Miguel Pereira (Intermunicipal Community of Cávado / UCP) and Miguel Ribeiro (Your Tours Portugal) will join the round table “The future of Sciences Social: Data Science as a tool to support decision-making”, under the moderation of Rui Esteves Pimenta (Professor Main Coordinator of IPP).

This event will also feature the participation of Pedro Loureiro Marques, Data Engineering Senior Manager at Blip, for a lecture on “Data Engineering, Data Analysis and Data Science”.
