The Braga Business Association (AEB) and the Municipality of Braga organised the 5th Visit Braga Tourism Forum in the AEB's main hall to mark World Tourism Day on September 27.
This event was attended by various experts and professionals from the tourism industry to discuss the main trends and challenges that are shaping tourism in the region.
The forum's programme included several panels dedicated to key themes for the future of tourism in the region, such as creating memorable tourist experiences, sustainability and the impact of technological innovation on the sector.
Professor Carla Cardoso was present as a speaker on the panel ‘A commitment to sustainability’ and, together with Pedro Mendes (Th1nk), they debated the relevance of sustainability in contemporary tourism, focusing on the city of Braga as a sustainable destination and listing the practices needed to achieve this status.
In the respective debate, Carla Cardoso emphasised the concept of author and polycentric tourism, stressing the importance of promoting responsible management of tourism resources in order to guarantee a balance between the growth of the sector and the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. During her speech, the coordinator of the degree in Tourism at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences emphasised the importance of this course, since it has the support and cooperation of major national and international partners linked to the sector, which means that it provides added value for those who take it.
