6th ‘CARE: Promoting Attractive and Responsible Research Careers’ meeting at Católica Braga

The 6th meeting of Católica Research (CARE) was held on 28 September at the António Freire Aula Magna of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (FFCS) of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP).

This was a day entirely dedicated to UCP's research community, which looked at the current challenges facing research careers in Portugal and Europe.

The Rector of UCP, Isabel Capeloa Gil, opened the session. Peter Hanenberg, Vice-Rector of UCP, then gave a keynote on the current issues and challenges of research in Europe.

Afterwards, there was a round table discussion with the rectors Paulo Jorge Ferreira (University of Aveiro) Rui Vieira de Castro (University of Minho) Sílvio Fernandes (University of Madeira), moderated by Isabel Capeloa Gil, to discuss the topic of ‘Promoting Attractive and Responsible Research Careers in Portugal’.

The morning panel was followed by the swearing-in ceremony of the directors of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences and the Faculty of Education and Psychology, Bruno Nobre and Raquel Matos, respectively.

The afternoon began with a keynote by Bruno Béu, Advisor to the Board of Directors of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), on the subject of ‘CoARA - Portuguese National Chapter’. This was followed by a round table on ‘Research Careers: Mobility and Interoperability - Opportunities and Challenges’, which was attended by Francisco Santos (Vice-President of the FCT), Ricardo Simões (Northern Regional Coordination and Development Commission), Verena Lino (Centre for Communication and Culture Studies), Nuno Rosa (CIIS), moderated by João Cortez (Director of the Research and Innovation Office).

Continuing the afternoon programme, the panel ‘CARE4CHANGE- 5 Split Sessions’ featured Pedro Simas (Católica Biomedical Research Center), Bruno Nobre (Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences), Henrique Sousa Martins (Faculty of Law), João Pereira (Faculty of Medicine) and Peter Hanenberg (Vice-Rector of UCP).

At the end of this 6th meeting of Católica Research, Peter Hanenberg presented the table ‘Rapports das split sessions’.
