With this course unit it is intended to:

• Situate and understand in the various stages of life, from childhood to late adulthood, the most prevalent mental disorders in the Portuguese context;
• Knowing the characteristics and diagnostic criteria of the main mental disorders;
• Deepen the psychopathological knowledge and frame them in the main psychopathological syndromes;
• Study the main personality disorders distinguished by the totality of emotional and behavioral traits of an individual that characterize his/her daily life;
• Deconstruct the concept of mental health and illness;
• Understanding the biopsychosocial dynamics involved in mental disorders addressed;
• Stimulate the incorporation of theoretical knowledge in clinical practice;
• Develop communication skills about the psychopathological constructs.
