The aim is essentially to develop a sociological analysis of the role and impact of the various modes of communication. Using information and communication theories as a backdrop, the aim is to stimulate a critical look at the media - from the most traditional to the new technologies - in order to understand their nature and the socio-cultural incidences associated with their history and use.
Throughout this course, the following objectives are sought:
- To understand the genesis, nature and modalities of various forms of communication (genres, media, evolution, social contexts, appropriation, ethical issues);
- Problematize some social transformations associated with the various forms of communication;
- Contextualize the major debates on the knowledge society;
- Apprehend, through case studies, some uses of new information and communication technologies (social networks, online encyclopedias, new forms of citizenship, transnationalism, disinformation, etc.).
