- Raising students' awareness of the importance of studying Greek, as a fundamental source of the Portuguese language, and as a means of expressing a culture and civilization of incomparable relevance in the history of humanity in general and the West in particular;
- Strengthening of communicative competences, and of the awareness of our peculiar linguistic and cultural heritage.
- Acquisition of specific linguistic and cultural knowledge which will enable the student not only to translate and critically interpret Greek texts, and to translate simple Portuguese texts into Greek, but also to relate relevant aspects of Portuguese language and culture to the corresponding aspects of Greek language and culture.
