Rui Novais, PhD researcher at the Centre for Philosophical and Humanistic Studies of the Catholic University of Braga (CEFH), presented earlier this month in Cape Verde (Mindelo-São Vicente), the study he has developed on the role of political actors in promoting misinformation, during the campaign for Cape Verde's presidential elections in 2016. The researcher was invited to a lecture at the University of Cape Verde (UniCV), where he presented his research work.

This work consists of an exhaustive analysis of airtime on radio and television, as instruments of political propaganda during electoral campaigns, of the two main presidential candidates. The aim was to try to understand whether and to what extent disinformation had been used during these periods, having found that the incumbent candidate was accused of resorting to various forms of spin and lying, in order to validate his candidate narrative with popular support and close to the citizens; an original conclusion that attests to the singularity of the Cape Verdean case in contrast with what is prevailing in the scientific literature. This investigation has already been published in an international journal (Southern Communication Journal), as an output of one of his current research projects based at CEFH on disinformation.
