Initiative takes place at Aula Magna Padre António Freire
"Overcoming the Tip of the Iceberg: Abuses of Power and Conscience" is the theme of the workshop that the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (FFCS) of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) - Braga, is hosting on January 22.
"The risk of an iceberg for sailors is that you can barely see the tip, which is the only part of the iceberg visible outside the ocean. In the same way, sexual abuse in the Church is only the tip of an even larger but less visible mass of ice: abuses of power and conscience, within religious communities and ecclesial communities in general, and in general in interpersonal relationships in ecclesial or non-ecclesial contexts," they warn in a statement.
The meeting, organized by the Archdiocese of Braga, through the Commission for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults of the Archdiocese of Braga and the FFCS of the UCP - Braga, aims to "address this complex reality, get to know some of the elements that make it up and suggest useful keys for recognizing abusive dynamics in the way we relate to each other".
Ianire Angulo Ordorika, professor of theology at the Faculty of Theology of Loyola University, Granada Campus, Spain, is the guest speaker at the session which starts at 15:00.
