Ana Paula Pinto, a lecturer at the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (FFCS) of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) - Braga, has won the 4th edition of the João Augusto d'Ornelas Literary Prize.
After analyzing the 40 works in the competition, the jury, made up of António Cruz, Carmo Marques and Nuno Barros, unanimously decided to propose the award of the João Augusto d'Ornelas Literary Prize, 2024, to the short story entitled “Ilhas”, submitted under the pseudonym “Santiago Falcão”, by Ana Paula Pinto.
The winner will be awarded 2000 euros and the publication of the short story in the collection, which will also include the two short stories that received honorable mentions.
The João Augusto d'Ornelas Literary Prize, promoted by the Câmara de Lobos Town Council, was created with the aim of paying tribute to and publicizing the name of the illustrious João Augusto d'Ornelas, who was probably born in Estreito de Câmara de Lobos on August 24, 1833, and died in Funchal on July 11, 1886, as well as fostering a love of reading and writing; defending and valuing the Portuguese language; and promoting and encouraging literary creation.
