Mentor training program launched at Catholic University

Project aims to support the language learning of young migrants in various countries.

The mentor training program for the AMIF Project - Language Buddy: Supporting the language learning of migrant children and youth through Language Buddies was launched at the Aula Magna of the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (FFCS) of the Portuguese Catholic University (UCP) in Braga. 

This reflective, dialogical and interactive event, broadcast in hybrid format, was attended by over a hundred people, from the academic community to representatives of various civil society organizations. 

Paulo Dias, pro-rector of UCP - Braga; Bruno Nobre, director of FFCS; Isabel Vieira (Casa do Professor); Catarina Vieira da Silva, lecturer and member of the board of FFCS of UCP - Braga; Raúl Manarte, psychologist - Médecins Sans Frontières; António Soares Direito, head of the Social Cohesion and Solidarity division of the Municipality and member of the board of FFCS of UCP - Braga; Raúl Manarte, psychologist - Médecins Sans Frontières; António Soares Direito, head of the Social Cohesion and Solidarity division of the Municipality of Braga; Paula Oliveira, Councillor for Social Action of the Municipality of Guimarães; Inês Espada Vieira, Center for Communication and Culture Studies; Raquel Rodrigues, researcher at the FFCS of UCP - Braga; Manuel Antunes da Cunha and Cândido Oliveira Martins, professors at the FFCS of UCP - Braga. 

This project, co-financed by the European Commission's Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (2021-2027), aims to support the language learning of young migrants in the participating countries: Greece, Austria, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Malta, Romania and Bulgaria. 

The Language Buddy Project, which focuses on the inclusion and language learning of young migrants, aims to promote a network of mentors who, by supporting language learning, contribute to the integration and development of young migrants in European communities. The mentor training program is a key part of this project, and many students have already shown interest in taking part. Applications must be made via the link available at “braga.ucp.pt”.
