On the 21st of April, the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) – Braga Regional Center celebrated, for the first time, the Academic Day of the UCP – Braga Campus.
According to the Pro-Rector, João Duque, although the Braga Campus is made up of only two faculties, the truth is that “the variety of courses and scientific areas it has is great”, which is why many students from different courses do not know and do not coexist with each other. In order to “provide a space and time for rapprochement, mutual knowledge and enjoyment of each other's company”, the idea of celebrating this day arose.
The morning panel had a formal session, chaired by the Vice-Rector of UCP, Isabel Vasconcelos, on behalf of the Rector of UCP, Isabel Capeloa Gil, which included a tribute to retired employees, the awarding of prizes to the best students and a lesson of wisdom given by the Secretary of State for Tourism, Commerce and Services, Nuno Fazenda.
D. José Cordeiro, Archbishop Primate of Braga, closed the session and presided over the Eucharist for the academic community, where, in his homily, he gave thanks to God for the 55 years of the UCP, “for all that was good, beautiful and true and it continues to happen in the university environment, which is so important for contemporary dialogue”.
The afternoon period was filled with a series of ludic moments, organized by the students, namely, a Stand Up Comedy show, by student Margarida Cruz, from the degree in Communication Sciences; a play, by the São João Bosco Theater Group, to which students from the Faculty of Theology belong; and a musical moment, by student Carla Coutinho, from the master's degree in Digital Communication.
The closure of this 1st edition of the UCP Academic Day – Braga Campus featured a snack to the sound of the Academic Choir and Lyrics - Female Tuna.
