Thursday, July 20, 2023 - 12:29

On the 18th, 19th and 20th of January 2024, the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (FFCS) of the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) – Braga Regional Centre will open its doors for the 5th International Conference of Pedagogy - “Education and Culture of Peace: Memory, Truth and Forgiveness”, which intends to constitute a space for reflection and sharing of ideas and experiences capable of contributing to a deepening of the paths leading to a more peaceful and harmonious society.

The current situation, marked by strong military, social, religious, and political conflicts, as well as by a growing wave of migrants and refugees, requires a deep thought about the driving role of education for the understanding and good relations between individuals and peoples.

This dimension implies, at least, the three main vectors that constitute the main lines of this Conference: memory, truth, and forgiveness.

This Congress, constituted by a partnership between the Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences of the Braga Regional Center of the Catholic University of Portugal and the University of Deusto, will feature keynote speeches by Laborinho Lúcio – "Direitos Humanos, Convivência e Caminho para a Paz " (January 19, 2024) –; and by Izaskun Sáez de la Fuente (University of Deusto) – "Contribuiciones de los Diálogos entre Historia y Memoria a la Reconciliación" (January 20, 2024).

Aimed at all civil society, governmental and non-governmental organizations, and all those interested in the theme of Education and Culture of Peace, the Congress is aimed at academics and professionals, researchers and teachers, educators and students, managers and school directors, a as it is credited as a Credited Training Action (25 hours): specific for disciplinary groups 290 (EMRC) and 410 (Philosophy).

The reflection will also be based on 3 panels (“The Duty of Memory”; “The Openness to the Truth”; “The Path of Forgiveness”) and multiple communications from national and international scholars in the areas of philosophy, theology, law, politics, etc.
