- Characterize the specificity of the work of linguists and applications to teaching, translation, computing and consulting;
- Understand the characteristics and functions of verbal language;
- Relate language, cognition, reality, society and culture;
- Understand the variation and change of languages;
- Know the main historical landmarks of the reflection about languages, from the invention of writing to the current linguistic theories;
- Acquire basic elements of phonetics/phonology: identify, characterize and represent vowels and consonants;
- Understand the notions of word, lexeme and morpheme and the basics of flexional and derivational morphology;
- Analyze the fundamental structure of the sentence: grammatical relations and syntactic constructions;
- Understand the characteristics of meaning and characterize semantic-lexical structures;
- Understand the principles of verbal interaction and know the basics of pragmatics.
