In this seminar we will focus on corpus-linguistic and experimental research on constructional alternations. The seminar takes both a theoretical and an empirical perspective. The theoretical underpinnings of the seminar include construal, constructional alternations, and the multivariate and probabilistic nature of linguistic knowledge. We will discuss the importance of introspection, corpora and experiments in cognitive linguistic research. The empirical part of the seminar showcases possible corpus-based and experimental research designs for the study of constructional alternations. The seminars include hands-on practical exercises.
