Pope Francis has appointed Isabel Capeloa Gil, Rector of the Catholic University of Portugal (UCP) as a consultant to the Dicastery for Culture and Education.

The announcement of the appointment of the Rector of the UCP and President of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC) was made by the Holy See Press Office on February 18th.

According to the Rector, "it is a privilege to be able to serve the Holy See in the mission of empowering and clarifying humanity through education and culture."

Isabel Capeloa Gil was already a consultant to the Congregation for Catholic Education which, with the reform of the Curia, gave rise to a new body, the Dicastery for Culture and Education.

The Rector of the UCP will now collaborate with the Portuguese Cardinal D. José Tolentino Mendonça, former vice-rector of the Catholic University and prefect of the Dicastery for Culture and Education

The organization was born with the publication of the apostolic constitution “Praedicate Evangelium”, on March 19, 2022, and assumes the missions previously entrusted to the Congregation for Catholic Education and the Pontifical Council for Culture.
