This course aims to raise students' awareness of the importance of the study of Greek, as a fundamental source of the Portuguese language, and as a means of expression of a culture and civilization of incomparable relevance in the history of humanity in general and the West in particular.

It also aims to strengthen communicative skills, and the awareness of our peculiar linguistic and cultural heritage. Each student will acquire specific linguistic and cultural knowledge, which will enable him/her not only to translate and critically interpret Greek texts, but also to translate simple Portuguese texts into Greek and to relate relevant aspects of the Portuguese language and culture to corresponding aspects of the Greek language and culture.
