Explore the Liberal Arts Renaissance with T4EU WEEK TransformEd

Thursday, June 26, 2025 - 13:04

"The Liberal Arts tradition began with a simple but radical question: What does it mean to be free? Not just in the political sense, but intellectually, morally and imaginatively. This model of education invites students to engage with difficult texts and uncomfortable questions; to discover how language, culture, power and knowledge intertwine; and to develop the capacity to interpret, challenge and create."

The Portuguese Catholic University, a member of the Transform4Europe Alliance, has opened applications for the T4EU WEEK TransformEd: Renaissance of Liberal Arts, which will take place from 20 to 24 October 2025 in Kaunas, Lithuania. There are 5 all-expenses-paid places for undergraduate, master's and PhD students from Católica to take part in this cultural experience and immersive course

T4EU Week will take place at Vytautas Magnus University with an agenda that combines academic and cultural activities. During the event, students will take part in a course selected from the nine available: Making Sense of Disagreement: How to Communicate Effectively with Epistemic and Moral Awareness; The Idea of Europe; Critical Heritage; Globalisation and International Communication; Field Notes to Frontlines: Anthropology That Matters; Creating A Musical from Scratch: International Musical Theatre Workshop; GIS 360°: Maps that Transform Society; Biodiversity Conservation: Understanding, Threats & Solution and Climate Change Science and Solutions.

In addition to the classes, there will be various optional activities, including sporting, cultural and scientific events, promoting the exchange of experiences between participants from the 10 European universities.

Over the course of five days, participants will explore themes at the intersection of knowledge and care, tradition and innovation. Rather than offering ready-made answers, this model encourages deep questioning, interdisciplinary exploration and personal growth. Through discussions at the crossroads of knowledge, culture and responsibility, students will engage with complex ideas and develop the tools to connect disciplines and communities.

Each course offers 3 ECTS, recognised in the Catholic University Diploma Supplement, and will include both face-to-face and online components.

Applications are open until 7 June and must be submitted online here. The selection results will be announced by 14 July 2025. More information is available on the official Transform4Europe page on the Católica website, on the Transform4Europe page or via email to t4eu@ucp.pt
