European Mental Health Awareness Week, organized by Mental Health Europe, takes place every May with the aim of fostering dialogue about mental health, combating stigma, and highlighting its importance.
This initiative has been gaining momentum, bringing together government organizations, institutions, and citizens from across Europe. The goal is to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and to strengthen its presence on the public, social, and political agendas. It is a significant opportunity to reinforce our collective commitment to well-being and to contribute to a more aware society.
Each year, this initiative focuses on a specific theme. The 2026 edition will take place from May 11 to 17, under the theme “Stronger Together: Prioritizing Mental Health in a Changing Europe.” This theme acknowledges the challenges facing Europe today and underscores the importance of solidarity, hope, and mutual support.
In higher education, this initiative reinforces the role of universities in promoting mental health by fostering healthy, inclusive, and mutually supportive environments, and by developing an institutional culture that values psychological well-being as an integral part of academic and personal success.
To this end, UCP2 Mental Health offers students at the Catholic University a range of initiatives designed to promote mental health. As part of its promotion and prevention efforts, the center organizes workshops aimed at increasing mental health literacy and developing strategies for self-care and psychological first aid.
UCP2 Mental Health also offers individual psychological counseling to students at the University’s four campuses. This service is also available to faculty and staff at the Lisbon, Braga, and Viseu campuses.
Taking care of mental health is everyone's responsibility.
