The Faculty of Philosophy and Social Sciences (FFCS) at the Universidade Católica - Braga celebrated World Portuguese Language Day with an event organized by the “Liberdade” Book Club in partnership with the Bachelor’s Program in Portuguese Studies.

The session took place at the P. Júlio Fragata Library at FFCS and featured writer Pedro Chagas Freitas and professor Maria Assunção Anes Morais, who offered two distinct yet complementary perspectives on the richness of the Portuguese language.

Drawing on his latest novel, Pedro Chagas Freitas discussed writing as an intimate and emotional human experience, emphasizing the transformative power of words and literature. Maria Assunção Morais, on the other hand, offered a more analytical reflection on language and literature, highlighting the depth and complexity of Miguel Torga’s work.

The complementary nature of the presentations made the session particularly enriching, allowing participants to engage simultaneously with the creative aspect of writing and with a critical and literary perspective on the Portuguese language.

The event concluded in an atmosphere of sharing and reflection, reaffirming the Portuguese language as a living heritage that is constantly evolving, where literature, thought, and human experience continue to converge and reinvent themselves.
