Católica Braga Hosts International Conference on Interfaith Dialogue and Combating Intolerance

Tuesday , 21 de April 2026 - 09:00 to Wednesday , 22 de April 2026 - 17:30

On April 21 and 22, 2026, the Catholic University of Braga will host the Final International Conference of the European InterMu-Se project, an initiative aimed at promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue and combating discrimination based on religion and ethnic origin.

This meeting will bring together experts, religious leaders, and representatives of civil society from various European countries to reflect on the contemporary challenges of coexistence among Christian, Jewish, and Muslim communities, as well as to present the results and best practices developed throughout the project.

InterMu-Se was born out of the urgent need to address growing phenomena of intolerance—including hate crimes and attacks on places of worship—by proposing concrete methodologies for building trust and understanding among different religious traditions. The final conference thus serves as a key opportunity to disseminate knowledge, consolidate lessons learned, and inspire future initiatives at the European level.

Among the event’s main objectives are raising public awareness of the experiences of members of these communities, promoting effective strategies for interfaith cooperation, and encouraging the active involvement of religious leaders and institutions in strengthening intercultural dialogue. At the same time, the event also aims to influence policymakers in order to ensure the continuity and sustainability of the initiatives developed.

The conference program includes high-level thematic panels such as “Interfaith Dialogue in the 21st Century” and “Religious Freedom and Coexistence in Polarized Societies,” which will feature leading international figures in the fields of theology, religious studies, and intercultural dialogue.

Over the course of the two days, the project’s main findings will also be presented, including training programs aimed at religious leaders and civil society organizations, as well as local initiatives implemented in various European countries.

Intended for religious leaders, faith-based organizations and schools, as well as the general public, this conference offers a unique opportunity to deepen our commitment to a culture of encounter, dialogue, and peace in a world marked by growing divisions.

Participation may be in person or online, subject to prior registration, with the aim of reinforcing the inclusive and open nature of this international event for sharing and reflection.
