Syntax and Semantics of Portuguese

  • Reflect and argue about the perspectival, dynamic, and encyclopedic nature of meaning;
  • Recognize the centrality of meaning and semantics;
  • Identify the semantics of words, the semasiological (prototypicality, polysemy) and onomasiological (lexical field, frame, lexical relations) structures and their cognitive mechanisms
  • Analyze semantic-lexical structures of Portuguese;
  • Discover the conceptual bases and motivations of Portuguese grammar;
  • Identify semantic types of nouns and describe their reference, quantification and qualification;
  • Analyze the temporal and relational structure of sentences and the meaning of syntactic constructions of Portuguese
  • Understand how to do things with words and how to structure texts;
  • Identify types of speech acts, principles of cooperative and polite conversation, presuppositions and implicatures;
  • Understand how semantic coherence is constructed in text and analyze its indicators.
